Heat-Activated Fabric Dressing

Sale price$19.95

Our Heat-Activated Fabric Dressing comes in a large 1/2-pint tin and provides enough wax to tackle those bigger projects. This item is perfect for those folks looking to achieve a more matte or ‘factory-waxed’ appearance.

Additional Info

Our Fabric Dressing is perfect for waterproofing unwaxed items, but it’s also a great option for those that want to use an all-natural wax treatment to re-waterproof their factory-waxed and oiled jackets. Applies easily when melted with a natural-bristle paint brush, soft cloth, and some elbow grease.

Instructions

The application process contains a few more steps than our wax bars, but the extra effort yields fantastic results. Applying hot wax penetrates deep into fabrics and dramatically reduces cure time.

    • Place tin in 1.5" cool water
    • Use heating element to simmer until melted
    • Apply with a brush or lint-free cloth
    • Use only as much wax as can be absorbed
    • Rub into fabric with fingers for uniformity
    • Allow 24~48 hours for wax to cure
    • Remove spot stains with Waxed Canvas Cleaner
    • Deodorize interior of item with Odor Eliminator

works very well on all fabrics

All went well.

I used it to wax a Carhartt jacket. It went well. It was fairly intuitive. I would recommend using a brush as opposed to a cloth. when I swapped to the brush I could apply it quickly and really get the wax to seep into the canvas.

Good Wax, Not a Walk in the Park

I've tried both Otter Wax's bar of wax and this heat activated one. This heat activated stuff is very good, but be ready to put in some elbow grease. If you expect to just "paint" it on and be done, well, you're wrong. This is not a negative aspect of the product, but simply a reality of working with all-natural waxes. I initially expected this to apply like Barbour's Thornproof Dressing (which from demo videos seems to stay liquid for longer). This wax, despite being completely melted in the tin, will harden within a couple seconds of being applied. The liquid state certainly helps the application and spreading process, but I had to continuously use my wife's hair dryer to keep my work area hot. I used both hands to thoroughly rub it in and keep it warm. I also used a cloth but keep in mind that the cloth will soak up a lot of wax, so it only works well once its fully saturated (technically you're losing product saturating the cloth). I re-waxed a flint and tinder hudson jacket I own, as well as my wife's previously unwaxed utility-style jacket. Both look and smell great. I am decently competent and manual work, and it still took about 2 hours to wax each jacket (plus half an hour to melt the wax), so definitely plan ahead. Do it on a very warm day if you can. Great product.

Just an opinion

Haven’t tried the wax yet but I’m optimistic. No doubt it will work well. It arrived in a timely fashion. Was very well packed. If anybody asks me I will give it a thumbs up. After shipping costs it becomes a little pricey. But options are few. So no complaints. Thanks for having the wax available.
